The Borough of Phoenixville is pleased to announce the completion of the Mowere Road Revitalization Project. The project included the realignment of traffic lanes, improved stormwater management, the addition of curbs, ADA curb ramps, sidewalks and crosswalks. This project allows both residents and visitors to the Borough to have a safer pedestrian connection from the downtown to the Schuylkill River Trail, which directly aligns with the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan.
Announcing the completion of the project, Borough Council President Jonathan Ewald said, "The completion of the Mowere Road realignment project marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to improving the safety, accessibility, and infrastructure of Phoenixville”. He further elaborated, “By enhancing driving conditions, stormwater management, sidewalk connections and the crossing at Schuylkill River Trail, we are creating a safer and more connected community for residents and visitors alike. I’m proud of the collaborative effort that brought this vision to life and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our Borough."
Councilman Brian Moore noted, "The Mowere Road improvement is an important milestone for making Phoenixville a truly walkable town. As a resident of Westridge, one of the neighborhoods along Mowere Road, it will be so wonderful for the residents of Westridge, Northridge and the French Creek Townhomes to walk out our front doors and safely walk down to the Schuylkill River Trail and into town. It's something we've long wanted and I appreciate the involvement and support of Borough staff and my colleagues on Borough Council for helping make this important project succeed."
The Mowere Road Revitalization Project was funded in part through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF), which is intended to provide financial assistance to municipalities to improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transportation revitalization. In addition to the award of $849,775 from PennDOT, the Borough was also awarded a $250,000 grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant in the Spring of 2021.
Councilman Richard Kirkner, “Not only is it great to have Mowere Road straightened and rebuilt, but it's also gratifying to have a sidewalk connection to the Schuylkill River Trial on Phoenixville's North Side. The improved road will provide decades of use, well worth the inconvenience of having it closed for a few months.”
