[ARCHIVED] Steelpointe Roads and Bridges Update

Steelpointe Full Site Map - revised

Steelpointe Roads and Bridges

There have been a lot of questions regarding the roads within the Steelpointe Project, Paradise Street and the opening of the bridge across the French Creek that connects Paradise Street with Smithworks Boulevard (a planned street in the Steelpointe project).

With any construction project, roads are designed with the intended function of safely circulating vehicular traffic in and out of the development and surrounding areas.  Typically, the construction sequence of a road involves the laying of a stone base covered with a base of asphalt. These preliminary base layers allow traffic to traverse the site. To complete the construction of a road, a smooth “wearing course” pavement layer is required.  Often, because of continued site work and the influx of construction vehicles using new roads, a final smooth wearing course of pavement is not installed until all site work construction has been completed. This is the case with Steelpointe, as construction continues of the remaining 60 townhomes and the four buildings of the apartment complex.

There are 29 roads and alleys in the Steelpointe Development.  At the point when the final, smooth wearing course for the roads and alleys is installed, the Borough’s Engineer will begin final inspections with the developer.   When satisfied the developer has properly completed the road work, certain roads will be offered to the Borough for dedication and others will be turned over to the homeowner’s association. The anticipated roads that will be offered for dedication to the Borough are:

Smithworks Boulevard, Burcham Street, Bennett Street,

Foundry Street, Nail Works Street, and Ore Street

Once dedication of these roads is accepted, the Borough can then control these roads with proper signage and enforcement of Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulations.  However, until then, these roads are owned, maintained, and controlled by the developer.

This same process applies to the bridge across the French Creek and the portion of Paradise Street in front of the Fire Station.   Once the Borough takes dedication, the Borough can control the use of Paradise Street and the bridge with proper signage and enforcement of Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulations. In addition, road work is planned this Spring for the improvement of Paradise Street between Nutt Road and the Fire Station. As a result, vehicular access for non-emergency vehicles may be limited for a period of time this Spring.

We have discussed the timing of these activities with the developer of the Steelpointe Project.  At this time, indications are that the roads and bridge could be finished, inspected and offered for dedication by the end of 2023.   Please note, this is an estimate only.   Many factors, including weather, can change the estimated timing.

We will continue working with the Developer on the completion of the Steelpointe roads and bridge and will update this website appropriately.  The Borough and Developer appreciate everyone’s patience through the remaining construction.
